2 DHANTU KEERAI MASIYAL

Dhantu Keerai/ Amarnath Leaves/ Dhantu soppu

Having greens/keerai/kurakku/soppu in any form is good for health. My mom always used to make mullai keerai/dhantu soppu/amarnath leaves in this way. It goes well with rice.

Dhantu keerai(Amarnath leaves) - 1 big bunch
Onion - 1 small chopped fine( tastes good if small onions are used..peel and cut into 2 or 3 pieces)
Red chillies - 3 or 4 broken into half
Curry leaves - few
Mustard seeds - few
Urad dhal - few
Salt as needed
Oil - 2 tsp

Remove leaves from the bunch( don't throw away the stem part... that can be used in curries or dry curries(poriyal)...)...wash and pat dry.
Put the leaves in a vessel.. add very little water and cook till the leaves are soft... cool and mash with a masher( back home the wooden masher was used)... here we can grind coarsely( not very fine) in a mixer.

Heat a tbsp of oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds, urad dhal and curry leaves.. when they start to pop out add chopped onions and red chillies... fry till onions turn light brown... next add the mashed or ground paste... salt and let it just come up to a boil... serve with rice.
