29 Pictures copied by a Tamil Magazine( Mangayar Malar)

I am not a regular reader of this magazine. Recently picked some copies from brother's place and few days back when I was just turning the pages was shocked to see my pictures published in Mangayar Malar September 2010 edition.

First of all they did not ask my permission or even have not credited to the source where it has been lifted. Published under a different name and recipe altered.
Second the picture has altered to remove the watermark.

This is a copyright violation.

I am sending a mail to the editor of the magazine hoping to get a response.

Padma mami, I have just stumbled across your blog and I was scrolling through the recipe archives. I am a third generation western born Indian with origins from Kaasi. My dearest husband originates from Chennai and now my biggest project is to learn Thamiz and south Indian cooking which I absolutely love.

I am so sad to read about what is happening to you. I have an idea to help - that I believe will help you to feel less violated due to what has happened and I do believe that based on your commenters and relatives that we have the power of numbers on our side.

Can you examine these magazines to determine who the advertisers are? If there are popular ones, we can target them in a letter writing campaign and let them know that the magazine publishes plagiarised photos. We should in these letters quote your web pages and the dates your pages were posted to show our evidence. We should also state that you have contacted the magazine for an explanation/redress/cease and desist request and that you have received no response.

We should also state in these letters that we will not purchase products from these establishments as what is being done is unfair to your intellectual property and hard work and is down right disrespectful and by purchasing ads in the said magazine, the advertisers subscribe to these bad values.

If we target both the local community stores as well as the head office of the advertisers, we would have a two-pronged approach that will certainly get attention. They would know what has happened.

If they get a hundred letters - this would prove a point and get the message across. India is more than a billion and we all have contacts on Facebook etc.

What do you think mami. It is like you were intellectually raped and now you are helpless because there is no intellectual police to go to.

Good luck mami.
